ARE DIY FACE MASKS GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN?
Yes! Many of the store-bought masks contain some good active ingredients but they also contain some not so great ones to keep the mask “fresh” so that it stays shelf-stable. Do you want those chemicals seeping into your pores? No way!
The best DIY face masks contain organic and natural ingredients that you can find in nature. Your refrigerator or pantry likely already contains all the ingredients you would need to make your own homemade masks.
Think about it, if you would put these ingredients in your mouth for nourishment, it only makes sense that they are completely safe and beneficial to your skin too!
BANANA-ORANGE FACE MASK
Banana moisturizes your skin leaving it looking and feeling softer. Honey is full of antioxidants and antibacterial properties. This will clarify your skin and open your pores acting as a natural acne remedy. If acne isn’t your skin concern, those same ingredients in honey slow down the aging process, moisturize and soothe your skin. You will be left with beautiful, glowing skin.
This mask will work for all skin types.
- 1/2 a banana
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
Directions: Mash up the banana, then mix in the orange juice and honey. Apply to the face avoiding your eye area. Keep the mixture on for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
CUCUMBER MILK MASK
Cucumber is hydrating and carries anti-aging benefits because of the high amount of water and vitamins A, B, and C contained in them. This cucumber mask is great for any skin type but especially dry and/or maturing skin. Greek yogurt contains lactose enzymes, which dissolves dirt and nourishes your skin.
- 1 Cucumber
- 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt

Milk masks are very fresh and rejuvenating. Lactic acid in milk will help reduce pigmentation, heal dry skin, hydrate skin, heal acne and relieve sunburn. As DIY face masks go, this is a super soothing one to try.

- Enough water to form a thick paste
Directions: Apply paste to face avoiding the eyes. Let mask dry completely. Rinse with warm water.
GREEK YOGURT STRAWBERRY FACE MASK

Directions: combine 1/2 of a single serve container of Greek yogurt with approx. 4 stemmed strawberries. Blend in a mini food processor or a blender. Apply mixture to face with either fingers or brush. Leave on until almost dry, about 30 minutes. Rinse & moisturize. Put leftovers in fridge for up to a week.
SPICY SOOTHING FACE MASK
This mask is designed to help with stressed skin to help soothe and calm. The honey and nutmeg are both anti-inflammatories which helps reduce redness and swelling from either irritation or acne and prevents infections. The powder form of the cinnamon and nutmeg also provide gentle exfoliation.

- 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
PUMPKIN YOGURT DIY FACE MASK
Pumpkin contains antioxidant Vitamin A and Vitamin C to help soften and soothe the skin and boost collagen production to prevent the signs of aging. It is also full of fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). These help increase cell turnover and brighten and smooth your skin.
Greek yogurt contains lactose enzymes, which dissolves dirt and nourishes your skin.
- 1/2 container single-serve Greek Yogurt
- 2-3 tablespoons Pureed Pumpkin
Directions: Mix ingredients together and paint on a clean, dry face. Leave the mask on for about 30 minutes. Rinse your mask off with warm water and moisturize. You can put any leftovers in the fridge. You can use this mask as often as every other morning or night.
MOISTURIZING HONEY OATMEAL MILK MASK
While oatmeal alone does not moisturize your skin, it is a beneficial component in a moisturizing face mask. Oatmeal is a humectant, which means that it helps your skin retain moisture. When used in conjunction with skin-hydrating ingredients, oatmeal can help your skin take on a glowing, dewy appearance.
Moisturizing honey, will curb over-production of sebum from your skins oil glands. Prevention of sebum build up results in less breakouts.
Lactic acid in milk will help reduce pigmentation, heal dry skin, hydrate skin, heal acne and relieve sunburn.
- 1 tbsp ground oatmeal (rolled oats/instant oats/plain oats)
- 2 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp of milk
Directions: Using a coffee grinder, blender, or food processor, grind the oatmeal to a powder. In a small bowl mix ground oatmeal, honey and milk, (add milk 1/4 tsp at a time) until a thick paste is formed. After cleansing, apply face mask onto entire face except eye area. Let sit for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off the mask by gently massaging in circular motion to loosen. Follow up with moisturizer.
EGG, HONEY AND LEMON TIGHTENING MASK
Egg whites make an excellent face mask base because they are full of protein. Protein is great for nourishing the skin and providing a great deal of firming. Egg whites also help minimize the appearance of your pores. Women have been using egg whites in their beauty routines for millenia, so there must be something to it!
Lemon juice is a super astringent because it keeps oil and pimples at bay. Lemon juice also lightens the skin, reducing discoloration and giving your face a fresh glow.
Honey should be in everything all the time. It is that awesome. In masks, it provides antibacterial power, it is anti-inflammatory so it reduces redness and swelling, slows down the aging process, clarifies and reduces acne, and it soothes and moisturizes. Wow!
- 1 egg white
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tbsp honey (or 1/2 tbsp honey powder)
Directions: Mix everything together until smooth and apply to a clean, freshly washed face. Allow the mask to dry, and then rinse well with warm water.
* TIP: As with any tightening mask, it’s best to lay down while letting it dry. If you are standing or sitting up while the mask is drying, gravity will pull the face downward. This is bad for your skins elasticity and overall appearance.
